A sitemap is the most important thing for your blog. You need to submit sitemap to Google for getting some attractions from Google.

It is like perfume which attracts the crawler of Google to come on your website.

Crawler means crawling and indexing your website for adding in the Google, so your blog can come up in the Google SERPs.



A sitemap helps you to add your website to Google so that more people can reach your website.

When you submit sitemap to Google, it adds all the links of your blog to Google.

Now, let's talk technically,

What is a sitemap?

A sitemap usually an XML file which contains all the URL of your blog. It is a list of every post and page of your blog.

It also contains, when were you last updated any post or page on your blog.

When Google-bot comes to your blog it checks the sitemap file and scans all the links that your blog includes.



Google understand from this file, which page you give more priority and which you want to hide.

No-Index Tag

If you want to hide any page from Google then you can also do this with the help of no-index tags.

The no-index tag notifies the Google bot to no index this page into your directory.

Add the following line in the <head> tag of your page which you want to hide-

"<meta name="googlebot" content="noindex">"

This way you can stop Google from indexing your private pages from Google.

Every blog have sitemaps, these are all auto-generated by your blog, you can check yours by going to-

"www.yoursiteurl.com/sitemap.xml".

If you are using a Wordpress, then install the YOAST plugin on your blog, it auto-generates the sitemap for your blog.

How to Submit Sitemap to Google?

If you have found a list of sitemaps on your blog then its time to submit it to Google for adding it to Google directory
  • Then, in the top left corner select your website from the property.
  • After selecting your website, then click on the sitemap from the menu.
Sometimes, the Sitemap menu hidden under the index tab, click on the index tab for expanding it.

  • In the sitemap Field, just add sitemap.xml.
  • Click Submit.
In this way, you can submit sitemap to Google.

Google Search Console previously known as Google Webmaster Tools.

Google adds some new features into it and makes it more useful for domain properties.

However, you can also remove any outdated or expired or unwanted sitemap from Google.

How to Delete a sitemap?

Perform the same steps for going to the sitemap menu.
  • Select your website from properties.
  • Click Sitemap.
Then a page will open with the already submitted sitemap.

  • Choose any sitemap you wish to remove.
  • Click Remove Sitemap.
This way you can also remove old or outdated sitemaps from Google.

Removing a sitemap can be risky as a risk process for your blog's SEO.

Choose a sitemap properly so your blog doesn't get affected.
